About Me

I started collecting shakers for my mother as a child. When we traveled around the mid-west on vacation, I was always on the hunt for a set for her collection. While serving 24 years in the United States Navy and traveling the many corners of the world, I always sought out a set from that far away port to send home to mom. When mom passed away, I inherited her collection. Today, my collection numbers over 8,000 sets and includes sets of Black Americana, advertising and souvenir shakers, particularly sets from foreign countries.

Upon retirement from the Navy in 1988, I moved to Pennsylvania and started my business. It is called “The Salt & Pepper Man”. I search the internet, yard sales, flea markets and auctions in quest for shakers for my collection and the business. I also buy collections, both large and small. The largest collection I have purchased numbered over 10,000 sets.

I am one of the founding members of The Novelty Salt & Pepper Shakers Club. I have served as Treasurer and President. I continue to be involved in the club’s annual convention. If you collect shakers, please click the Salt and Pepper Novelty Club link on the home page and view the club’s website for membership information. Be sure to click on the convention photo section to view photos of past conventions. The club provides a source of information and can put you in contact with members in your area for sharing your collection and knowledge.
